What actually drives the answer
Zero-turn equipment is compelling on large open turf where high travel speed and deck width matter. Robot mowers use far smaller cutting widths but compensate through frequent unattended operation.
Where buyers get tripped up
Steep slopes, wet turf, obstacles, and narrow passages affect both systems differently. Some zero-turn machines also have slope limitations, while robot mower traction varies widely between two-wheel, AWD, and 4WD designs.
How to make the decision
Value your own time explicitly. If a robot can maintain the property without constant intervention, autonomy can outweigh raw deck width. If the property is too large or complex for a residential robot, zero-turn productivity remains difficult to replace.
